NICARAGUA SCOUTS BANNED!!

Daniel Ortega’s regime closed eight NGOs, including the Scouts Association, a fraternity of Catholic missionaries and three religious associations, according to an official resolution published this Friday (02/16/2024).

The organizations allegedly fell into “non-compliance” with their financial reports, and after the cancellation of their legal status, their assets will pass to the State, states the decision of the Ministry of the Interior, published in the official newspaper La Gaceta.

The entity pointed out that the Scouts Association of Nicaragua, which had been registered since 1979, did not report its financial statements between 2020 and 2022 and had an “expired” board of directors since September 2020.

Sources of adult educators from the Scout Association point out that “as you know, in the country we are living in a dictatorship and today it took away our legal personality and ultimately all our assets, school grounds, etc.” However, within the organization they maintain hope of reversing the decision.

Adult Scouts and representatives who participate in the Movement tell us that something similar already happened in the 80s and finally many young people, members of Scouting, have ended up leaving the country because individual freedoms are restricted, they are persecuted for joining the Movement and the The fear of giving an opinion increases due to the consequences.

Obviously, immediately informed of the cancellation of the legal personality, the authorities of the Association have met at the national and group level to see alternatives so that the groups do not disappear in 2024, but the horizon looks very complex. “We must be careful with boys, girls and young people when we inform them about the issue,” indicates a high-ranking source from the institution, who has already assumed that the scout headquarters that also housed other social institutions was lost.
We hope that the Nicaraguan government will once again authorize the scout movement in its country.
